Long overdue, IMHO. And let's ask rabble.ca to change the name of this forum as well.
Absolutely. When Rabble started 15 years ago, Aboriginal was the preferred name; now Indigenous is the one most agreed upon internationally.
That term is fine for the people that it covers, but it generally excludes Metis and "non-status Indians". "Indigenous" includes them.
It also excludes Inuit.

They're only "left out" of the "First Nations" terminology. I really don't know where that term came from, though it's a relatively recent one.
According to Wikipedia:
FSIN made the leap straight to Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations.
I expect the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies will be next.
Interesting that the two words, although they are similar, do not have the same etymology.
