Liberal MPP Laurel Broten To Take On MP Megan Leslie in Halifax

Anything is possible. And two years is a lifetime in politics.

Liberal MPP Laurel Broten will be moving to Halifax. Setting the stage for a possible showdown between her and Megan Leslie for Halifax.

Not saying it will happen. But Laurel Broten is no political lightweight. She is a former cabinet minister in Education.

That is surely to appeal to those mothers in the riding, having a former education minister as their MP.

Megan Leslie should start looking over her shoulder

What about grandmothers? Why do you exclude grandmothers? Hey?

I hope she does run as I have heard she was an unmitigated disaster as Education Minister and was fired from that Portfolio by the current Premier. Just sayin'

Also, absolutely no one here will have ever heard of her or care about who she is; I somehow doubt people would turn from the enormously popular incumbant, deputy leader of the opposition to someone wth no connection to the city running as the standard bearer for the 3rd party...doubt "mothers" care much about someone who has been an unsuccessful Ed Min in an entirely different province...

She has two years to work the riding. In politics that is a lifetime. Who knows what will happen in two years.

Besides her obvious lack of appeal to grandparents, I seem to remember that Laurel Broten is the same anti-democratic thug who: 1) crushed the Ontario teachers' collective bargaining rights by imposing contracts; and 2) swore her allegiance to public funding for Catholic education, saying she would never look to merging the two systems to save costs.

I find it very hard to believe that the same folks who elected Megan Leslie would ever vote for a piece of shit like Laurel Broten.

And two years is not a lifetime. I know what will happen in two years. Just PM me for the answer.

People would be well-advised to find out who she is. They will be distinctly unimpressed.

We need more like Megan Leslie in the NDP caucus.

The people who didn't vote for Megan Leslie say the fact she doesn't have children (and Broten does) means she doesn't have a sufficient stake in the future.

Didn't people say the same thing when Alexa McDonough took on Mary Clancy?

I'd like to see a source for that ridiculous claim.

Well that was the argument against Kim Campbell in comparison to Jean Charet

I can't tell if this thread is vaguely offensive or hilariously entertaining.

Watch out Megan! Your incredibly popular days are numbered!

Two years is a lifetime in politics! I'm not saying it will happen, but it certainly raises (boring, pointless) questions!

If Trudeau-mania sweeps through Nova Scotia will Megan be able to hang on?

Trudeau-mania is untreatable and invariably terminal.

I think Megan will hang on to what she's got, because we've got a lot of love between us, hang on, hang on, hang on!

Look what happened in Quebec. Big name Bloc incumbents were turfed for no-name NDP candidates.

Oh, so the people who didn't vote for Megan Leslie haven't actually said that she doesn't have a sufficient stake in the future? You're just extrapolating the internal politics of the PC leadership race of 1993 onto present day electorate of Halifax?

I will forward rabble's next intern listing to Megan so that she at least has a fall back plan for her inevitable defeat at the hands of whatshername.

Does she have nieces or nephews?  Does she have close friends with children?  Does she not care about the children in her community?  Where did this comment come from - a time machine?  If so, who set the dial at 1950?

The latest polls put the Liberals at an astonishing 53% in Atlantic Canada. While the NDP at 20.6%, their worst since March 2011.

All Broten has to do is put her name on the ballot and she'll take Halifax in a walk, based on those numbers.

Why does Broten need to go through the trouble of putting her name on the ballot? Sure with the information we already have at hand, the eager citizens of Halifax will write her name on the ballot and send her to Ottawa!

Not really.

It just feels like it because of threads like this.

Where's the evidence that she's running for office?  I thought she was retiring from political life and moving down east for personal and family reasons.

I suppose it's possible she could run federally as the Liberals did come close in Halifax back in 2004 when they ran Sheila Fougere, but they probably won't be winning the riding in the near future.

Terry towel has just confirmed that Dalton McGuinty is moving to St John's to take on Jack Harris. When Laurel Broten was a backbencher she proposed making it a crime for anyone who ran across child porn on the Internet not to report it to the police. That's wen it became apparent to me what a looney she is.

Should be noted that Halifax riding is a traditional Liberal riding
