Growing up as a Catholic the Easter weekend was the biggest deal for religious events. Here is what I learnt.

Yes, Happy Easter to everyone, just in the sense of a spring celebration. Passover is much later than Easter this year; usually they tend to be much closer; I suspect the Xians fiddled with the lunar calendar more than once. The Easter events take place during Passover and in Latin languages they have the same or similar names: Pasqua, Pascua, Pâque(s) etc.

Is anyone doing anything (choir singing, religious service, special meal, event for children or grandchildren etc)? I don't think I'm doing anything at all; in a week we are organising a spring supper with several friends.

I'm still puzzled about why exactly Jesus came back, when his intention all along was to ascend to heaven and sit on his father's right side. Did he forget something? Was he just showing his face to prove some kind of point? I confess I don't know the whole story, but if someone does, I'd be grateful for enlightenment.

He was just screwing with people. Unfortunately, they didn't get the joke.

We coloured eggs on Friday, which is something we really have fun with. I found some red dye at the Greek specialty store down the road, wax stylus and beeswax for Ukrainian style designs, lots of other colours and fun stuff. We have rainbow eggs, an anarchist egg, Pepe the Frog, one that just says "butts" all over it. Egg dyeing with teens opens a whole new dimension. I still do baskets full of candy, silly things and small luxuries for my girls - I enjoy putting them together - and we eat chocolate for breakfast. Oh, and I made crossless hot cross buns. I was looking for a recipe for something else and found skdadl's recipe for her mum's hot cross buns that she shared, so I did up a batch last night.

We are having a a family diner tonight for 20 or so and an Ishtar chocolate egg and bunny hunt for the Grandkids.

Easter is triggered by the relationship of the Equinox to the full moon. This year is one of the earliest dates for Easter because the Equinox was on Saturday night and the next full moon was on Wednesday morning, thus making this Sunday Easter Sunday.  I don't understand the Jewish calendar so I am not sure why Passover seems to fluctuate as well but not in step with the Xian religious calendar. For years I thought Passover was the week before Easter but that is not necessarily the case.
