Israel launches airstrikes on Gaza again -- November 2012
UN considers emergency meeting on Israeli military action in Gaza
The UN Security Council is meeting tonight to consider an Egyptian request for an emergency meeting on Israel's military action in Gaza.
The closed-door meeting comes in response to a letter from Egyptian Ambassador Muutaz Khalil.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon released statements saying he had spoken to Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi about "the worrisome escalation of violence in southern Israel and Gaza and the need to prevent any further deterioration."
He also said he had talked to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyau to express concern about "an alarming escalation of indiscriminate rocket fire from Gaza into Israel and the targeted killing by Israel of a Hamas military operative in Gaza."
Israel killed Hamas commander Ahmad Jabari in one of some 20 airstrikes on the Gaza Strip Wednesday, the heaviest barrage on the Palestinian territory in four years in retaliation for renewed rocket fire on southern Israel.
Gaza's health minister said 10 people were killed — two of them young children — while the Israeli military said its attack was just the beginning of a major offensive and warned it could escalate with a ground attack.
Nous accusons: Mainstream media fails to report on atrocities against Gaza
While countries across Europe and North America commemorated military casualties of past and present wars on November 11, Israel was targeting civilians.
On November 12, waking up to a new week, readers at breakfast were flooded with heart rending accounts of past and current military casualties. There was, however, no or little mention of the fact that the majority of casualties of modern day wars are civilians. There was also hardly any mention on the morning of November 12 of military attacks on Gaza that continued throughout the weekend.
NDP: Reaction to the Situation in the Middle East
New Democrats are very concerned by the recent escalation of tensions in Gaza and Israel. We call on all sides to exercise restraint and respect international humanitarian law obligations to protect civilians at all times. Escalation would be dangerous and detrimental to prospects for long-term peace and stability in the region.
We are monitoring the situation closely and continue to call on the Canadian government to pursue a balanced and constructive approach in the Middle East.

Israel is once again attacking Gaza. Nearly four years after the devastating Operation Cast Lead, Israeli forces are declaring their plans for a "ground invasion" of Gaza while engaging in massive bombing raids.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Gaza have suspended classes in all schools and universities across Gaza. The death toll is increasing, and rapidly. More than 9 people have been confirmed dead, including Ranan Arafat, a 4 year old girl.
Israel extrajudicially assassinated Hamas military leader Ahmed Jabari this morning and the bombs keep dropping as Israel announces it is calling up its military reserves.
So far the Canadian government is silent yet has repeatedly affirmed its support for Israeli occupation and apartheid.
Come out to demand an end to the attacks on Gaza and justice for Palestine!

Strangely (with our huge Arab population and sizeable contingent of so-called "self-hating Jews", I haven't heard of a demo in Montréal recently. Would appreciate any info, to pass along.
There was this yesterday, and there's this today at 5 pm at Concordia.
I received this today about a vigil tomorrow outside the Israeli consulate in Montréal, now located at posh Westmount Square shopping and office concourse:
Bonjour

Is anyone really surprised that our government is with Israel?
The Harpercons love that terrorist state.
Funny how all this stuff follows days after the American election with Israel once again instigating war at the inevitable expense of the U.S. and ,nowadays,Canada.
Not surprisingly the MSM are reporting it this way ;
http://www.ctvnews.ca/world/rockets-fired-at-tel-aviv-as-gaza-conflict-w...
In contrast,this is what MSM DOESN'T want you to see ;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFmoplmrR3o&feature=g-all-c
If you get all your news from MSM (as the vast majority of people do) no wonder a war mongering terrorist like Netanyahoo and his minions and enablers get so much unquestioned support and sympathy.
And this is why Palestinians will likely forever continue to be slaughtered and oppressed without so much as a wimper from the world.
What does that even mean, Catchfire?
Do you mean Twitter? The IDF and the Al Qassam brigades were tweeting back and forth at each other (which is rather surreal) but since they were both making threats against each other, that violates the terms of service and both briefly had their accounts suspended.
Israeli officials have asked their own citizens NOT to post about where Hamas rockets are hitting in Israel because doing so could help Hamas better aim their missiles. I don't know if they've contacted Facebook about this
It means that posts which use the word "Gaza" have not been showing up on individuals' walls or news feeds. I haven't seen this myself, only seen other people report it.
The Facebook event page for the Vancouver demo was removed by Facebook after one of the admins of the event page deleted an offensive zionist post to the page. Facebook claimed the page was "offensive", but said nothing about the zionist post.
Egypt's ambassador to Canada interviewed, Solomon eloquently put in his place.
Solomon had the Israeli ambassador on the day before, and challenged her the same way he challenged the Egyptian ambassador. In my view, the israeli ambassador was less convincing - and she was more strident and more intolerant. The Egyptian ambassador did a good job, clearly frustrated by the misinformation that's out there.
I agree. The Israeli ambassador seemed less credible to me (but that might be my personal bias), but I was mightily impressed by Egypt's ambassador. His responses to Solomon's questions were reasoned, articulate and more direct than one generally expects from diplomats.

but here's another POV:
Israel Encourages Palestinian Rocket Attacks
http://sott.net/article/253631-Israel-Encourages-Palestinian-Rocket-Attacks
"...the rocket attacks are the Palestinians ONLY way of protesting against the 60 year long occupation of their land responding to unprovoked Israeli attacks and murder of Palestinian civilians. Think about that. The Palestinians have no option, no appeal to the international community because no one listens.
The Palestinians have two choices: they can sit quietly by and allow the IDF to arbitrarily and summarily murder them, or they can fire primitive rockets at the closest targets Israel and hope that they make the Israeli government think twice..."
