U.S. immigration decree and its effects
I thought it might be useful to start up a new thread for this issue, because it has a lot of implications here (and elsewhere) and I thought it would get lost in the Trump administration thread.

Ms Fadwa Aloui, a Canadian citizen born in Fèz, Morocco, her cousin and her two children were headed in her car to a shopping trip in Burlington (Vermont, I assume?) and they were interrogated for a long time at the US border. She was asked about the mosque she attended, her imam and what she thought of Trump!
This had happened to her before shortly after the WTC attack in 2011, but finally the customs and immigration agents let her through then. This time, they were all refused, despite valid Canadian passports.
And I thought the Church of Shopping was the national religion in Trumpland!
Not in leftist Burlington. Home of Bernie Sanders.
It isn't Burlington's fault. I can't find an article in English. I'd be inclined to write to Sanders' staff.
Several people have had severe frostbite, including one man who lost all his fingers. It is likely just a matter of time before someone freezes to death making that trek.

Thank you Smith. I chose the title wanting this thread to address other stories as well as the malicious and racist treatment of a woman who just wanted to do a daytrip with family.
It is entirely possible that people have frozen to death, and their bodies not found.
There are also stories of academics and others denied entrance to the US and stuck in limbo here.
An article in the Gazette pretty much repeats the Devoir article, in English: http://montrealgazette.com/news/local-news/i-was-denied-entry-to-u-s-aft... However, there is a torrent of hatred in the comments. I thought the Gazette had eliminated comments because of all the hate.

Here's a heartbreaker:

Yes, that is horrible, and people will die. There is also more about Mme Alaoui on that page - her little boy was just over chemo, and she wanted to buy him a present. And she has parents and other relatives in the US.

The Trump regime is not operating the US as a normal country and there will be more of this type of thing.
Canada should adjust for humanitarian reasons alone. I realize the difficulty with making it easier for people to come in -- hen the US is pushing them so hard. We could have a number of people coming that would be difficult to manage -- but what alternative is there. Letting people die in the snow is not a plan.
Now a young man of Moroccan origin born in Canada was denied entry to the US although he was part of a track and field team invited to a meet in Boston: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/another-canadian-citizen-refused-...

Note. This is from last summer, so it was happening even before he was the candidate

what was happening?
Legislation and threats against undocumented workers. It was particulary bad in Georgia. It is most certainly a lot worse now that he is president.
i read the article it was when he was running and spewing his hate
America was not great before Trump. Here is an article that contains statistics on what has happened since the Bush years with illegal immigrants. The part that gets me is the incarceration quota for their prisons. If you blame everything on Trump then the system stays unscathed until the next nice talking POTUS comes along to continue the same policies. Expect a Trudeau clone to follow Trump. A good looking fast talking liar to impress the masses and give them the power to rule on behalf of their class.
