babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.

First babble post from a democratic reform activist!

I am an open minded democratic reform enthusiast always searching for a better way to select leaders and keep them accountable to the needs of the majority (at least) and preferably the legitimate needs of all citizens. I'm a fan of proportional representation but have reasons to think we should think carefully about what kind of proportional representation we want.

to me the biggest and hardest challenge is having a electorate that is actually informed enough to make real choices.  Look at how uninformed people were last election, and like all democracies they voted against everything they claimed to be supporting in the liberals, mainly because they don't pay attention and so are very easily duped by a good speaker.

Well, that's the second biggest and hardest challenge.

The real biggest and hardest challenge will be determining how we'll tell the difference between someone voting for what we don't want because they're uninformed, and someone voting for what we don't want because they have different opinions from ours.

Magoo, don't do that.  This person doesn't deserve your smug little word games.   Democratic reform is a serious issue that affects us all.  This poster deserves your respect for trying to make things better.

Thanks for the scold, Ken, but I was replying to milo204, not andrewwarren777.

Welcome, Andrew, from another new member.

I've been lurking and am overdue to introduce myself. I specially welcome you as someone "open minded and always searching for a better way." I feel like we may be kindred spirits, maybe in more areas than just politics. From what I've seen there are other open minded members on Babble but some who are quite volubly "not so much." Guess I'll go & introduce myself. See you around :).
