Prof. Rick Coupland no longer at St. Lawrence College after alleged homophobic remark

Warning: The "alleged homophobic remark" is a murderous hateful comment, quoted in the story.

Good riddance.

Perhaps he can get Jason Kenney to ride in to his rescue - I mean why else have an "Office of Religious Freedom" if not to protect the homophobic rantings of a member of the Association of Covenant People, a group that believes in “the lineal descent of Anglo-Celto-Saxondom from the Twelve Tribes of Israel.” (see the Towleroad posting). Who would have thought there were so many flavours of crazy to pick from... they are giving Baskin-Robbins a run for their money.

I expect he will avoid criminal charges under the hate speech provisions of the criminal code - if you are willing to split hairs his remarks (as reported anyway) probably fall a little short of actual incitement... they are more along the lines of gloating at the thought of violence against gays, but I doubt he will have much success in contesting his dismissal, much less convincing the bureaucrats at EI that he is eligible to collect benefits.

So no tears from this feline -- but I am left wondering, can you overdose on Schadenfreude?

Well, it would serve you right.

And the chain reaction begins...

According to the article the professor is no longer employed at the College.

Maybe a future as a Conservative senator?

Yes, I would expect that it will be an uphill climb to challenge the dismissal. He may want to challenge it as being too severe. But even there I would think his chances are virtually none as are his future job prospects as an educator. I would think it is starting to be understood by more people that what you do in the media can be grounds for dismissal.
