Canadian Media Giant Apologizes to Independent Jewish Voices Canada

Dear Friend,

I am very pleased to present the following Vancouver Sun statement along with an Independent Jewish Voices Canada (IJV) Op-Ed and member Corey Levine's letter printed in their newspaper, and posted on their website and the websites of the Ottawa Citizen and the Calgary Herald. We encourage you to add your comments on their websites.

Please take a moment to sign our email petition to the leaders of Canada's Israel lobby, calling on them to engage in public discussion and debate with IJV, rather than resorting to defamation against IJV and other supporters of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Postmedia's apology:

A Vancouver Sun editorial published on August 25 entitled “Green Party Lost Its Way” made certain statements about Independent Jewish Voices and, by association, Corey Levine, based on reports from other media and advocacy groups. In particular, based on new information provided by IJV, the Vancouver Sun retracts its statements that IJV denies the Holocaust, supports Iran or encourages terrorism against Israelis. The Vancouver Sun apologizes for not providing proper attribution and to IJV and Corey Levine for the unsubstantiated statements.

Surely an apology is not enough!
This is pure slander intimating prosecution under Canada´s anti terrorism act!

It's good enough for me (I'm a member of IJV, though not any kind of representative). It's more than I expected. Threatening legal action sometimes works. Of course, the power of the Israel lobby is such that the smear will always be there, as long as our benevolent ruling classes continue to see an advantage in supporting the rogue regime in Israel. But c'est la vie. The struggle continues.

I think it is great news. Why on earth would IJV be Holocaust deniers?

I just heard from an old friend in UJFP, the French equivalent of IJV, who had to wear the yellow star as a little girl in Paris and was a refugee along with her family back then. I was thrilled - when one hasn't happened to hear from people in their 80s, one fears that they are either dead or dead to the world. Turns out she is fine (considering her advanced age) and working with contemporary refugee children. And still turns out for UJFP pickets.

though they will feel free to keep running articles where people level the same accusations against pro palestinian voices...

Of course they will. What were you expecting? The only way to reduce that is to get more people be active supporters of the Palestinian cause, and also to speak out against the mendacious equivalence of opposing Israel's colonial aggression and antisemitism.

Your post makes me think of this song,  written just a couple of years ago:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9wJBmsR5mw
