This is sad, he still had so much to give.

Sorry, the computer was slow and I double posted!
Very tragic.
CBC News: Yukon NDP aims to rebuild after MLA's death
Do I have this correct? Over the course of the current territorial legislature, the entire original NDP caucus has died?
No. The third NDP MLA elected in the last election, John Edzerza, crossed the floor and is Minister of the Environment.

The election has begun.
So...this guy went from getting elected as an MLA for the Yukon Party...to crossing over and sitting as an Independent...to crossing over, standing and getting elected for the NDP...to crossing over again to sit as an Indepedent...to crossing over again to RETURN to the Yukon Party(you'd have to kind of wonder if they'd be sure about TAKING him back after all that). If the CPC-ML and the CHP were around in the Yukon, would he have crossed over to THEM as well?
(I picture the Liberals shouting "What are we...chopped liver?"as he keeps passing them on his way back and forth across the floor).
This is the norme in the Yukon, Fentie was a New Democrat before he was elected YP Premier... Dave Sloan was a NDP cabinet minister but is now a Liberal candidate...
I'm not a fan of this movemnet i think its opportunistic at best, or with Edzerza at worst and confusing :P
Still, I checked and noticed that Ederza wasn't a YP candidate in this election. Perhaps they just gave him a summer job because there weren't any openings at McDonald's.
According to Wikipedia he has serious health issues, and this is the reason he is not running.
NDP candidate Lois Moorcroft won the new Copperbelt South riding, referred to in the article above, by 3 votes (397-394) over the Yukon Party candidate.
... Steve Cardiffs old riding was Mount Lorne, (which was merged into Mount Lorne-Southern Lakes this election) was won by two time Federal NDP candidate Kevin Barr, great to see this riding held by the NDP.
Even better that both ridings are NDP (lets hope the recount if there is one keeps this in the NDP column). Growing from 1 to 6 seats is nothing but impressive.
Was there any overlap between the former Mount Lorne riding and the new Copperbelt South? I was confused by the earlier CBC article, which did indeed mention Cardiff was the member for Mount Lorne but also discussed Lois Moorcroft's nomination in Copperbelt South. In any case, I am glad the NDP won both seats.
Looking at the two, it looks like there is a fair bit of overlap, North of the Alaska HWY and South of the Yukon river is now in Copperbelt South, and was in Mount Lorne... Looks like many neighbourhoods crossed over into CS like Wolf Creek, Mary Lake and Spruce Hill... so were both right!
If there is someone from Whitehorse here they might be able to correct me?
(wiki said there was no cross over...)
