Learning from our (collective) mistakes in activism

If there was one thing in activism that you did in 2011 (or before) that you wouldn't want to repeat in 2012 (or ever), what would it be?

I think for me it's overinvolvement in multiple causes. The thing that got me really down last year was the fact the I was deeply involved in at least four groups (which in itself is okay) but the meetings for the groups were all over the city and I found myself exhausted throughout the week, and the weekend announced more meetings. My health not being good (with some chronic issues) didn't help either.

I felt like I wasn't giving my 100% to any of the causes and ended up feeling dissatisfied with myself and overall unfulfilled.

My name is Steff and I'm the new activist toolkit intern.

I'm a journalism student with a gender studies minor and I'm really interested in feminist organizing, anti-oppression work, disAbility and queer rights. A lot of the stuff that I've posted so far has fallen under these topics.

There are a lot of changes happening to the toolkit, new content and even a new blog for it.

I'm constantly adding to the toolkit, so let me know what you'd like to see happen with it.

Babble need a forum: Peace/Anti-war

Babble has a forum for Feminist Activism and others but none for the anti-war activists. The Anti-war movement in Canada is weak and divided between pro-NATO (Project Ploughshares) and anti-NATO. R2P justifies Afghanistan and Libya to many on the Left. The Liberals got us into Afghanistan and the Conservatives Libya but both had all-party support as with Yugoslavia.

Toronto Ward 2 has more libraries than Tim Horton's! Let's fix this!

City of Toronto Ward 2 councillor Doug Ford (Brother of Mayor Rob Ford) complained recently on talk radio station CFRB that his area has more libraries than Tim Horton's.

World Water day is observed by millions all over the world. It marks a day of adherence by governments to make water accessible and safe. Toronto's water is far from safe, and dangerously accessible. A fluorosilicate in the name of HEXAFLUOROSILICIC ACID (HFSA) is added to Toronto's public drinking water. HFSA is an industrial waste product from the phosphate fertilizer industry that comes mainly from Florida and China. It costs taxpayers millions a year to add, operate, and treat its side effects, including dental fluorosis. Dental Fluorosis is caused by excessive fluoride intake, consumed easily through food and beverages, tap water, and dental products. Dental Fluorosis costs significantly more to treat than the cavities it presumes to prevent.
