Site upgrade news

Hello babblers,

rabble.ca is going through some major changes in the next few weeks. We're doing a much-needed upgrade on the core software of our site and in the process making quite a few changes. On Friday, February 17 we will have some downtime in the evening as the new system comes online. When it comes back up, the foundations of our new site will be in place.

In the coming weeks there will be a number of issues you might experience with the site as we try to get it running smoothly and implement new developments. While our limited tech staff will be on overtime to get it working, you can expect some features to either not work or be missing entirely. But you can also expect to see some new features that will improve your experience.

Laissez-faire moderating

As some of you may have noticed, my style of moderating has changed over the years - less confrontational, more laissez faire. So what do you think of the various moderating styles over the years? Your memory may go as far back as Audra, or I might be the only thing resembling a moderator you've ever seen on the site. Regardless, please let me know what you think.

This post is swamped with Randian and other rightwing types violating rabble policy and purpose. That is very different from "political disagreements" - this looks like a concerted attack.

Should Iraq War report get its own thread?

There are already "bombs" going off about the forthcoming Chilcot report, which stands to implicate Bush, Blair and lots of people in the UK, US and elsewhere who supported the war on Iraq (including Hillary Clinton, and some right-wing Labourites). I don't want to create more thread proliferation, but think this might warrant its own thread. What do others think?

This is a thread to wish happy holidays and celebrations to everyone here and particularly those who are working here -- the moderators and any other support people we may not even know about.

These good wishes are for everyone here, no matter what you celebrate if anything at all. But mostly a desire that you find happiness somewhere, escape from what you wish to escape and joy either with the people you love or in contemplation of those who have brought love in your life in the past who cannot be with you now.
