There is no point that one can enter in a sane manner: to cut public libraries, perhaps in the end the most democratic of public institutions, is to say something about the end of the civil. Forgive me, that is a conceit. There is no ‘conversation' on the threat to public libraries. There is no interested interlocutor who will be persuaded by arguments as to the necessity not simply for the present libraries but for more support to libraries.

Dionne Brand rabblers austerity measures Doug Ford libraries rob ford Toronto Toronto city council Arts & Culture ON Wed, 27 Jul 2011 22:32:47 +0000 dionne brand 85851 at http://rabble-6.rabble.ca Mr. Harper was in an American debate Tuesday night http://rabble-6.rabble.ca/blogs/bloggers/dionne-brand/2011/04/mr-harper-was-american-debate-last-night

I wanted to post this YouTube video before the debates.

Dionne Brand rabblers 2011 Federal Election media Elections Media Matters Politics in Canada CA Wed, 13 Apr 2011 20:35:22 +0000 dionne brand 83237 at http://rabble-6.rabble.ca Reckless coalition: Of language and politics http://rabble-6.rabble.ca/blogs/bloggers/dionne-brand/2011/04/reckless-coalition

I admit to getting off to a slow start here but I simply could not make sense of anything said by Conservative leader Stephen Harper in the first moments after he announced the election.
