Winners in that they got the most attention. The losers though, well, that would be anyone who tuned in hoping to hear something new from the Conservative Party status quo.</p> <p>The Conservative leadership debate in Quebec City, the largest yet, was Stephen Blaney and Maxime Bernier's night to shine, and they did, as the candidates who could pack the clearest and fastest punch.&nbsp;</p> <p>Blaney's riding just south of Quebec City in Lévis made it easy for his supporters to pack the room. Only rich people drive, only suckers take the TTC, and in a city plagued with the WASPy morality of the 1800s, it makes sense that a policy of collective punishment should be shared broadly, regardless of how you commute.</p> <p>Forget harm reduction. It allows for American law enforcement agents to cross into Canada and gives, "Every designated officer has the same power to enforce an Act of Parliament as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police."</p> <p>The program, called Shiprider, is limited to waterways between Canada and the United States. It's grown to include some journalists at Radio-Canada who are being spied on by the Surété du Québec, the provincial police force.</p> <p>There are two ways that one could react to this news, and both include outrage. The first is outrage over the intrusion into the privacy of journalists, who are a privileged class of individuals. The floodgates of allegations have been opened and dozens of women have come forward.</p> <p>These dozens probably stand in for hundreds. But who knows? We never will.</p> <p>What's been so frustrating about the mainstream coverage of Trump's sins has been the tone of outrage towards these allegations. The hike on admission is between $0.22 and $0.51.</p> <p>The public broadcaster mindlessly repeated the corporation's talking points: nearly 90 per cent of their employees make minimum wage. We put all our effort into campaigning for electoral reform. Everyone we talked to agreed with the recommendation of the Constituency Assembly. We were all down with MMP (mixed-member proportional). Everyone we knew would be voting to change the system. It was a sure bet!</p> <p>The referendum, of course, did not pass. When the letter dropped, signatory Judy Rebick <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-votes-2014/andrea-horwath-campaign-leaves-prominent-ndp-supporters-deeply-distressed-1.2652766" rel="nofollow">told the CBC</a> that the ONDP, "seem[s] to be running on a kind of right-wing populism, not at all on party policy, or in any way talking about social justice or democracy."</p> <p>Party loyalists were swift to condemn the letter for a variety of reasons, but the most consistent criticism was that the timing was bad.
