Utilizing Access to Information documents as well as primary sources in Central and South America, Blood of Extraction: Canadian Imperialism in Latin America details the relationship between Canadian resource extractors, local governments, and departments of the Canadian federal government.

The book was launched at Octopus Books in Ottawa, Ontario on January 11, 2017. In this talk, co-author Todd Gordon sheds some light on the subject as well as explains the efforts by corporations to silence local resistance to these mining and resource extraction projects.

Belongings: The Fight for Land and Food explores the link between land ownership, conflict and food insecurity, in a new book by author Sally Miller.

The farm economy is not getting better. Urban sprawl continues to gobble up farmland, farmers still leave the farm every day to take jobs which pay the farm bills and support their families. Miller looks at the root causes of these problems. A big part of the problem is land ownership. She talks about how that system contributes to food insecurity and unstable farm economies.

Wayne MacPhail spoke to Sally Miller for HarrowsmithNow.com and shared it with the rabble book lounge.

Kidding, you're the worst and I send you no "happy birthdays." However, you can send Harper a birthday card (and message) saying that (and other things) now.

But if you don't have anytime for that (why bother with Harper anymore, amiright?), here is some positive, feel good news you can use.

Happy Friday everyone! Lots of good news, and unsolicited discussion about The Fast and Furious, in this week's Feel Good Friday.

I think it is a well known fact that I love terrible movies. And by terrible I mean amazing.

Therefore, I'm not embarrassed to tell you all that I saw Furious 7 on the opening weekend and then proceeded to talk about it all week at work and tried to rope some of my colleagues into a Fast and the Furious 1-7 marathon.

None of this is really related to Feel Good Friday. I just wanted to say that in case anyone wanted to talk about Fast and the Furious with me, specifically Furious 7 and the scene with The Rock and his arm cast, in the comments section.

Things are looking pretty good lately, right? Here's a few laughs and positive stuff anyhow.

Ah, you know. Things are looking up these days!

The big ball of fire has come out in the east coast, I found two packages of dried cheese in my macaroni and cheese box and Shad was named the new host of CBC's Q.

There will also be national protests against Bill C-51 this Saturday to send a big old message to Harper.

So kick back this weekend, put your sunglasses on, grab a marker and scribble "stop Bill C-51" and hit the streets with your community.

This week is one to remember always and bring out on those drier days.
