On this week's episode of Talking Radical Radio, Scott Neigh speaks with Kyturea Jones, Payton Ashe, and Donntayia Jones. They are members of the North End Community Action Committee, a Black youth-led community group in Halifax's North End that came together around concerns about the gentrification of their neighbourhood and that has become involved in a wide range of issues focused on empowering both Black youth and the communities they live in.

For these reasons and many others, concerned citizens must cling tightly to the faint glimmers of hope that cross their paths. They are few and far between.

It is only fitting then that, on October 18, David Suzuki took time out of his schedule to celebrate some of these country's rising environmental stars -- a well-deserved recharge for one of this country's leading environmental voices.

The film, Common Notions, explores what made the Purple Thistle work so well for young people. Generation Squeeze began as a University of British Columbia project researching generational inequality in Canada. With the support of early funders like the United Way, Vancouver Foundation, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Mowafaghian Foundation and Vancity Credit Union, we became an awareness campaign. After years of raising awareness about the growing squeeze on younger Canadians, we now know awareness isn’t enough.

On July 5, 2015, I woke up just after dawn. It was early, but I didn't feel tired or disoriented. I stepped out on my deck and saw it wasn't 5 a.m.-dim at all.

It was cloudy, and the clouds were orange.

I grabbed my phone, and after noticing the time -- 9:30 -- I saw my Twitter and Facebook feeds lighting up with "Smoke Posts."

"Crazy orange clouds in #yyj -- is this from a forest fire?"

"Apocalyptic morning in Victoria."
