Summer for many people means hanging out at the beach, vacations, coconut-scented sunscreen, bbq's, and late-night sunsets. It also means going to music festivals practically every weekend, at almost every vacant field or national park imaginable, spanning one day events, to one week camping trips.

Today’s guest is Emily Temple Wood, who recently graduated with degrees in molecular biology and Arabic and Islamic studies from Loyola University Chicago. This fall, Emily will begin medical school at MidWestern University. Aside from her academic achievements, Emily is a prolific writer and essayist on women scientists and is a Wikipedia Editor. She is the creator of WikiProject Women Scientists, an initiative that documents the lives, accomplishments and contributions of women in STEM fields.

In February of this year, Bahia was in Vancouver for the week-long TEDTalk conference, and even though we we're emailing each other quite frequently, we never had the chance to meet. In the end, it all worked out, and I spoke with Bahia over Skype where she discussed protest street art, documentation, memory, the banality of her own art, and why beauty in art is a Western luxury.
