Vicky Smallman is an activist and organizer who lives in and blogs about Ottawa. A professional officer for the Canadian Association of University Teachers, Vicky
brought her passion for her community to cyberspace in 2005, when she began publishing the weblog, /Miss Vicky's Offhand Remarks./
Vicky's pesky sense of social justice has kept her busy over the years - she was Ontario Chair of the Canadian Federation of Students in 1996, when she was privileged to be involved in the Days of Action against the Harris government. Since moving to Ottawa, she helped found the Ottawa Witness Group (a community policing watchdog) and been involved in a myriad of community organizations, actions and campaigns. She currently serves on the boards of the Somerset West Community Health Centre and /Newswest/, a community-run newspaper, and Kitchicoo, her son's co-operative daycare
For the last two elections, Vicky has been tracking nominations of women candidates for Equal Voice , a national advocacy group addressing the issue of women's under-representation at all levels of government in Canada.
Vicky lives with her partner, web developer Patrick Denny, their 2 year-old son, Gordon, and their dog Winston.
