Hello.

I've looked at a few forum sites and so far this is one of the most civil ones I've found (with the exception of some devoted to gardening :).)

I hope for very open-minded civil discourse on a wide range of subjects, emphasising curiosity & exploration of ideas rather than debating fixed positions & polarised ideologies, with which I'm thoroughly fed up. Not too keen on the use of labels although they have some convenience if their meaning is clearly defined/undrestood. Interested in philosophical discussion & amateur psycholgy but not as academic disciplines - "homespun", even a bit naive, is good.

Hi all,

Long time lurker looking to make the transition to semi-regular poster. I've been reading rabble and babble, avidly, for over 10 years. My politics is largely focused on issues of class/poverty/labour rights and anti-war, but Rabble and babble have helped me expand my horizons a bit, I hope.

For the oldtime posters here, I wanted to mention I went to highschool with Audra, and I miss Slumberjack, Maysie and Cueball.

I've been hesitant to post here in the past, but I'm trying to get over it. In this age of Trump, I feel something of a duty to get better at talking with/listening to people with whom I disagree. So I'm here to practice.

I am an open minded democratic reform enthusiast always searching for a better way to select leaders and keep them accountable to the needs of the majority (at least) and preferably the legitimate needs of all citizens. I'm a fan of proportional representation but have reasons to think we should think carefully about what kind of proportional representation we want.

I started being interested in politics late in life but an event I found so despicable and Albertans appeared to be completely oblivious and just rolled over on it. I wanted to rant from the rooftops shake people to wake up and join me in getting these people out of office. Unfortunately I'm a definite "B" type personality and typically not very good at cojolling the people to take a stand. I hope here I'll get some pointers.

My username currently is an_unashamed_liberal, i meant this as a way to say that I am proud to be a leftist, since liberal, has at times been used synonymously with leftist, but I now see that it could mean that i am a supporter of the Liberal party, who despite me voting for in this recent election, are not my chosen party, so is there anyway to change my username?

Rabble.ca is one of my first out reach attempts to gather information, and join/cultivate like minded people that want and can limit the impact of people who steal from Canadians, cause violance towards Canadians, and who steal and cause violence (wars, coups, etc) to others on behalf of Canadians ("elected" officials preying on other countries).

If anyone has any material or links to other forums where people share information on how to prevent theft/violence from our rulers, please share.

I hope the rabble organization/community can be as helpful as it seems.

After a few years of lurking the Babble thread, I decided to join in. I teach political economy, write books, am strongly pro-union, and have worked on NDP campaigns so if you prick me, I bleed orange.

About 20 years ago when I was first legally allowed to vote, I did vote Liberal. I was young and foolish, so hopefully that won't be held against me!
