Considering that there is increasing anecdotal and research-based evidence that sex addiction is a real phenomenon, how do we reconcile the desire among sex workers to maximally deregulate the industry for higher profits and the desire among sex addicts (including recovered sex addicts) to regulate it, or at least the advertizing of it, especially when we consider that there is more regulation of cigarette advertizing?

I was wondering if anyone here has had to deal with either depression, a desire for self harm, or sex addiction (which in my case seem to be quite interrelated, feeding on one another in a vicious cycle), and what coping strategies you have used to cope with either? Sex Addicts Anonymous? Any other experiences? Any advice would be appreciated. Also, whether a therapist was worth it in your case, what recommendations he had made, etc.

Subject: VERY! very important! ODSP is reviewing ongoing medical eligibility just like the UK, USA 1)The Social Assistance Review Commission's report recommended that ODSP review the ongoing entitlement to benefits of current recipients who have review dates. Most recipients have review dates. 2)The Commission estimated that at the time of the report there were over 30,000 outstanding reviews and that the Province could save many $millions if recipients whose health had improved were cut off benefits. 3) It has started and the method by which the reviews are happening will itself result in many thousands of very disabled people being cut off benefits. 4) The process is that the local ODSP office is sending new forms to each recipient.

Montreal superhospital métro station won't be wheelchair accessible

A huge pile of money has been poured into the new English-language superhospital in NDG, but the Vendôme métro station, which serves this new hospital complex, will not be made wheelchair accessible with a lift.

The Jean-Talon métro, not far from where I live, is undergoing renovations at one entrance, and will have a lift for people in wheelchairs, parents pushing strollers, and others who are temporarily or permanently less mobile. This station serves two lines, but does not directly serve a hospital - there is a hospital nearby, one station east of Jean-Talon; it is much smaller than this new one planned.

Montreal CBC Daybreak speaking to a disabled advocate about this outrageous (and penny-wise and pound-foolish) oversight.

I haven't read the whole thing yet but a couple of things jumped out at me:

(1) There clearly is an increase in violent interactions;

(2) They are calling for 300 more in-patient beds;

(3) Violence against the mentally ill is at least 10X that of against the general population.

I'm a hearing person, but because English is my wife's second language, we've kept CC on constantly since she moved in. I've found it an asset even to me, because there are things you miss while listening, but I've also noticed the spread in quality. Sometimes (rarely) it's excellent. More often it's mediocre. A teenager recently dismissed from an intensive autism treatment program in Kalamazoo County remains unconscious in a Grand Rapids hospital Thursday morning, suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning authorities say was part of a failed murder/suicide attempt by her mother.

The 45-year-old Benzie County mother is hospitalized, too, and has been arrested and a warrant authorized charging her with attempted murder; she is under protective custody, according to a news release by the Michigan State Police in Cadillac.

You might know that there is a "controversial" new treatment for MS that has yielded fantastic results. The response of the Canadian MS society and Canadian government, medical councils and media has been to use the word "controversial" a lot and stall by studying it to death. Why? Well, MS drugs cost about $40,000 per patient per year. This treatment costs $10,000 in the for profit American system and probably in the region of $4,000 here in Canada if was allowed. Why on earth would a MS society which is supposedly looking out for patient health, and a Canadian governement who is supposedly tight wad and trying to save money be so anti this new treatment?

I was reading an older thread where it was agreed pretty much that pregnant women should be left alone -- it's utterly their choice whether to continue the pregnancy, terminate, smoke, drink alcohol, even do crack cocaine, it's all up to her and society has no business intervening.
