This will be an interesting debate. The Rae days that the Conservatives and the unions railed against in Ontario are now the model (with no credit given) for the austerity policy of the Sask. government.

The argument is that it is temporary and prevents the alternative layoffs.

We have heard this before.

The policy was very unpopular here -- in part becuase of the way it was imposed. However, if you are making cuts it can be argued that it is a better way to do it. And I never did disagree with the mechanism. Unions as well have agreed to other kinds of job sharing arrangments to avoid cuts.

Just a thought. Supposing NAFTA is scrapped by the US. Would not imposimg countervailing tariffs (or any tariffs of any sort for that matter) be such a terrible idea?

A woman in Joliette, a town northeast of Montréal, found hundreds of garments that seem to have been deliberately slashed before they were discarded in the refuse bins of the local Sears store. There were also strolllers and baby seats whose dates had not expired. http://www.ledevoir.com/societe/actualites-en-societe/488141/chez-sears-... Other chains in Québec, including Yellow, Garage and Reitmans, have also been found committing such deeds.

By the way, none of these chains are particularly "prestigious" or "high-end". On the contrary.

This is shocking and should be illegal. It is environmentally wasteful and deprives people who need clothing of wearable garments.
