Sam Harrison can't even vote yet, but he's already a force to be reckoned with.

The 17 year old is the Director of Kids for Climate Action, a group working to get high school students more involved in environmental issues. The group has ten organizers in high schools across the Lower Mainland and is working on issues from coal exports from Vancouver's harbour to a campaign to make climate action the key issue on candidates' platforms.

It was a lively final day inside and outside the Conservative Party convention in Calgary.

Calgary MP Michelle Rempel ran a tight ship to move both the Constitution and Policy plenaries along.

There was hardly a dull moment as motions from Saturday's Constitution and Policy meetings were brought forward for vote. One was a motion from Mark Warawa (MP Langley) officially condemning discrimination against girls occurring through gender selective pregnancy termination. Dozens of protesters lined the streets leading into the convention in favour of the motion. The motion carried.

Just over a week before the Northern Gateway Pipeline hearings began, EthicalOil.org and its allies launched a pre-emptive PR offensive on environmental and First Nations groups who oppose the pipeline. Their new website, OurDecision.ca, and ad campaign are an attempt to invalidate opposition to the pipeline by pointing to the small amount of American funding going to some environmental groups, and claiming that pipeline opponents are actually the “puppets” of “foreign interests.”

As the Northern Gateway Pipeline Project Joint Review Panel begins hearing over 4,000 comments submitted by community members, First Nations, governments and environmental groups, the tar sands front group EthicalOil.org has launched its latest PR offensive in support of the pipeline. OurDecision.ca, the new astroturf ad campaign, is another dirty PR attempt to undermine the real and growing grassroots opposition to Big Oil’s plans to ram through this destructive pipeline.

You've donated millions of dollars to various organizations, and have used your talk show to raise the profile of women's issues. Your philanthopy has funded projects like The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, and Women for Women International. Canada causes cancer: government & industry collude to keep asbestos off UN hazardous chemical list

Last week, the Canadian government successfully and unilaterally stonewalled efforts to list chrysotile asbestos as a hazardous chemical at a United Nations conference in Switzerland. According to Michael Stanley-Jones of the UN Environment Program, “[Canada] intervened in the chemicals contact group meeting ... and opposed listing". This is the third time that Canada has derailed efforts to list the deadly mineral under the Rotterdam Convention.

On March 3, ultra-right U.S. conglomerate Koch Industries signed up to lobby the province on energy and resource development policy issues, as well as taxation and economic development.

The Koch Brothers, architects of the Tea Party and bankrollers of climate-change denial, have recently set up shop to lobby the Alberta government, according to the Edmonton Journal.
