Stacey dives into two different important points for you getting your novel seen: writing contests, and good editing. With her debut novel, she has won an Honourable Mention for the Writer's Digest Self-Published Book Awards, as well as a Benjamin Franklin Award for her oh-so-pretty cover. Her wirting is so smooth, and the novel's East Coast setting gorgeous.
In this episode of Write Along Radio, we served you a fresh new writing exercise. This month, we ask you to consider past writing, and finish what you started. There is no word length, there are no parameters -- all you need to do is pick a piece of writing and see it through, whatever that means to you.

Plus, in this episode we'll recap how difficult we found last month's genre mashup challenge. April's genre mashup left us both feeling awkward in unknown writing territory.

Write Along RadioCatherine BrunelleKevin Johnspodcast for writerswriting exercisewriting podcastArts & CultureCAWed, 06 May 2015 02:08:04 +0000WriteAlongRadio117847 at http://rabble-6.rabble.caWriting mentors: Been there, done that, do more

Mentorship -- it's a darn good way to get yourself seen and be pushed to write better. This week, we're talking with the On The Brink writers about finding community and mentoring for your writing. What is On the Brink? It's a program that showcases writers "on the brink" of great successes, and helps their storytelling get seen, heard and read. Listen in as we discuss how you can find your community, and connect with those who will push you further with your writing.

Write Along RadioCatherine BrunelleKevin Johnscreative writingMentoringon the brinkArts & CultureCATue, 28 Apr 2015 00:35:32 +0000WriteAlongRadio117695 at http://rabble-6.rabble.caJane Urquhart and Charlotte Gray on writing

Write Along Radio is thrilled to announce that we're teaming up with Foment and the Ottawa International Writers Festival to bring roundtable conversations straight from the festival itself.

In part one of our special series, we're talking about the value of community and having a public space as both readers and writers, to come together and exchange ideas freely. It's about moving from the page, and sparking real person-to-person conversation. We talk with Sean Wilson, co-founder and creative director of the festival itself, and Daniel Bezalel Richardsen, Editor of the literary journal Foment.
In this week's episode we are transforming Write Along Radio into Read Along Radio -- with our book of focus being Hugh Howey's famous series, Wool. Hugh Howey is an incredibly successful self-published author, and we read his omnibus Wool collection and talk story structure, novella, plot twists, protagonists, and emotional responses. (And as usual, Kevin and I see things differently)

This is writers talking reading, and you are welcome to read along.

Warning: This podcast contains spoilers.

Read along and share your thoughts, or just listen in for a good laugh.

This special episode of Ottawa Writes was recorded before a live audience at the Conference on Canadian Content in Speculative Arts and Literature in Ottawa. We talk behind the scenes of podcasting, how we started ours, and podcast chatter in general. This episode features a more "roundtable" discussion format as oppose to our general intro, interview and close style.
