femicidal abduction, rape, torture and murder of 7-year-old Indigenous girl in Colombia

Horrible. A feminist issue, also one of a deep class divide and oppression of Indigenous peoples, both marked by utter contempt for poor people of Indigenous origin.

That's horrific. That poor, wee girl.

ETA: Interesting that femicide is a specific criminal charge. Here it would be first degree homicide alongside the other charges.

FWIW, that charge comes with a potential sentence of 20 to 41 years, so it's definitely not any less toothy than our first degree murder.

True. I just find it interesting that it's a differentiated crime.

I can't say whether it's a genuine effort, or lip service, but here's the back story:

Colombia confronts femicide, the 'most extreme form of violence against women'

Yes, it is a campaign throughout Latin America. Started in Mexico, and in Central America, but the horrible gang-related torture (sexual and otherwise) and murder of an Argentinian teenager sparked off protests in just about every country south of the US.  I think it is akin to the notion of "hate crime", and an aggravating factor in other charges, whether murder, assault or other.
