ikosmos: just between two Babblers, I find the majority of your posts here hugely problematic, based on a whole range of dubious assumptions and framed by what I consider to be weak logic and unsubstantiated leaps of political faith. 

Then you make the Whitman connection, and all - OK, almost all - is redeemed.

Thanks for the thread, very interesting historical piece about the American Civil War. It would be interesting to look into other Whitman's letters in the future.
