Haiti: Opportunity Knocks!

http://leninology.blogspot.com/2010/01/haiti-opportunity-knocks.html

'Amidst the Suffering, Crisis in Haiti Offers Opportunities to the US'

"...in addition to providing humanitarian assistance, the US response to the tragic earthquake in Haiti offers opportunities to reshape Haiti's long - dysfunctional government and economy as well as to improve the public image of the United States in the region...

While on the ground in Haiti, the US military can also interrupt the nightly flights of cocaine to Haiti and the Dominican Republic from the Venezuelan coast and counter the ongoing efforts of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to destabilize the island of Hispaniola..."

Catastrophe in Haiti

http://dissidentvoice.org/2010/01/catastrophe-in-haiti

"The media coverage of the earthquake is marked by an almost complete divorce of the disaster from the social and political history of Haiti. Canadian Haiti Solidarity activist Yves Engler said in an interview "they repeatedly state that the government was completely unprepared to deal iwth the crisis. This is true. But they left out why.."

Earthquake in Haiti: The Day After:

http://www.narconews.com/Issue63/article4010.html

"Where is the help?" she asked. The former government employee spit the question again and again, hands on her hips, "Where is the help? Is the UN really here? Does America really help Haiti?...Only in the movies have I seen this - when America sent missiles to Iraq, that's what I see. When Israel do that to Gaza, that's what I see here..."

Tragedy and Irony

http://arabwomanblues.blogspot.com/2010/01/tragedy-irony.html

"And ironically, the Haiti tragedy reminded me so much of Baghdad's. When bodies littered the streets in hundreds and the stench was unbearable, just like in Port au Prince City, were left there in the streets with stray dogs feeding on them...

No one filmed that, no one micro blogged about it and no convoys were sent..it was all done in silence...covered and quickly stashed away in morgues and mass graves...and people are still living in tents and homes are still in ruins and in rubble...

Baghdad must have been cursed by the Devil too...the 'Relief Envoy' then in Iraq, and today in Haiti is one and the same...

I want to cry.."

Pat Robertson: Haiti 'Cursed by Pact to the Devil' (vid)

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article24390.htm

"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said we will serve you if you'll get us free from the French. True story. And so the devil said, okay, it's a deal..."

I don't get the thread title.  Could you explain it?  Since this is going to be a busy thread and possibly one we might want to link to on the front page or in newsletters, it would be great if you could help me by making the connection more clear.
