Newby..
I try to be interested in everything. (If you don't take an interest, it may come back to bite you in the ass!)
I'm currently wondering if Feminism, Unions, & the Left in general can survive the towering current of ignorance flowing through all aspects of our lives these days.
The near total lack of interesting thoughtful media really distresses me. The pandering of news media to the lowest common denominator & the change to 'Opinion Journalism' in the U.S. is frightening!
O.K.... In my day to day life, I spend a lot of time with my adult daughter, & my Mom. My hubby passed away 6 years ago this month. My Mom is handicapped & 96 years old.
(That's another one of my 'Beefs! We offer no assistance @ all, no matter what the Gov web pages say, to people caring for elderly parents without help. It's called being a 'prisoner in your own home' ... & perhaps in a prison of your own device. But you have to do what you think is best, & live with the consequences, I suppose. But caregivers Do save to local & Prov, Gov's a TON of $$$! It would cost them about $1000.00 a day to care for my Mom in an institutional setting. They give me $360.00 a year.)
I love pets, animals, & Nature. I like working in my garden. I like being outside, weather permitting..lols.
I don't know why people love dogs & hate cats, or visa versa. They both are wonderful in their own ways. I have no use at all for people who do not like animals. I do not trust them to be able to step out of themselves & relate to others.
(We have lived with dogs for about 60,000 years & we still don't understand them. Good Luck to all involved if we ever encounter alien life. )
Hellebore, (I had to tack on the "e"), your posting demands a reply. I have found that dogs are marvelous pets, restrained by leashes, and cats are too, kept inside where they won't muck up flower beds, or kill young rabbits and birds.
The injustice of your situation cries out for resolution. I can only offer the understanding of one who was able to find institutional care for my partner, and can live with myself by visiting her daily.
I completely agree with your concerns regarding the state of media and public perception:
"I'm currently wondering if Feminism, Unions, & the Left in general can survive the towering current of ignorance flowing through all aspects of our lives these days. The near total lack of interesting thoughtful media really distresses me. Your distress is understood here. And some will appreciate your particular concern for a media appealing to the "lowest common denominator."
Some will not.
Hi Hellebore! Welcome to babble! It's great to see you and your diverse interests on board. We have threads about pets and gardening, and we have threads about the media and unions. I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say. I've already enjoyed what I've read so far.
See you on the boards!
Lols! I left the 'e' off the end of Hellebor for a reason. It's to separate myself from the plant "Hellebore'. (There is always the possibilty of being a "Hellish Bore' too.) :D
Welcome. I hope you can find something here that helps you get a more just and humane system for your family(and the rest of us)or, failing that, at least some kind of comfort.
