My sympathies are with the native people. I don't see why the settlers should appropriate the lake as well as most of the land. They need to realize that the waters by the shore are an ecologically special area and not just an adjunct to landscaping. I suspect the wild rice in the shallow water makes good habitat for young fish as well as grain.
