texting while...
http://www.motherjones.com/environment/2014/12/texting-walking-injuries-... This piece is about texting while walking; it came to mind because I was on the Beaubien bus heading west (towards St-Laurent) when I guy sauntered across the busy - and very icy - street while texting on his phone. The bus driver had to slam on his brakes. He told me this happened all the time, and he constantly saw drivers texting as well when he looked down from his perch. I've also seen cyclists texting, and even motorcyclists have been seen doing it.
Is this a Darwin award requirement, given the fall in DWI rates?
And yes, I know that "texting while" laws can also easily become texting while Black, Brown or young in a hoodie patterns; probably the most important factor is improving public awareness about this phenomenon.
I give my students a 2 minute warning to put away their electronic devices before the start of class. Texting while in class effects your academic performance and that of the students around you.
Texting while skyping. It's wrong, on so many levels.
Especially if you are skyping your sweetie, overseas...
I once rode my ten-speed bike nearly a mile while reading an Archie Digest, but that's just how we had to do it in the days before SMS.
When my students text in class without permission I make them work over the weekend. A pleasent mix of essays and physical exertion.
That said sometimes I'll reference something during a lecture then have them pull out their phones and research it.
Hi Mr Magoo. Cat still alive? My Renzo is almost 19.
If you mean the Mighty Ernest, well, he succumbed to a massive, intentionally administered drug overdose about five years ago when his joy and his dignity were in peril. But we're now the lucky servants of Princess Olivia, a wee little girly-cat whose similarity to Ernest begins and ends with a tabby coat. Where he slunk, she leaps. Where he loved bacon and plastic bags, she only eats store-bought treats. And while he was afraid of mice, she (at exactly half his size) ISN'T AFRAID OF ANYTHING.
Shout out to Renzo for giving parrots and tortoises a run for their money!
Yes, of course I meant Ernest. Skdadl's two oldest cats, Minnie and Tildie, were exactly the same age as Renzo (born the same week in 1996). Tildie died before skdadl, but I can't find out anything about Minnie, or the other cats, as sadly pogge predeceased skdadl. I'd have to ask her brother the Tory MP, and really I don't feel like doing that, not because of the political chasm, but because he doesn't know me from adam or eve.
My bonnie skypes over the ocean,
My bonnie skypes over the sea,
My bonnie skypes over the ocean,
Oh skype back my bonnie to me!
So nice to see you back Magoo.
I once read an archie comic while in traffic
We probably both should have died, and Archie should have lived forever. Crazy world.
But he will
I have done this. And I was skyping my sweetie overseas at the time. I suck.
Hey, Magoo! I've missed you!
(lagatta, glad to hear Renzo is still kicking along. I lost Joulsie the Spook about a year ago (she was 21) and would get a black kitten in a heartbeat if I thought the Calico Wickeds would tolerate it.)
