Make 2016 the year you work toward reconciliation.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) is releasing its final report this December. The report is the culmination of a five-year project to inform all Canadians about what happened in Indian Residential Schools. The Commission has documented the truth of survivors, families, and communities.

The TRC also provided recommendations for reconciliation, to "guide and inspire Aboriginal people and Canadians in a process of reconciliation and renewed relationships that are based on mutual understanding and respect."

These are the TRC calls to action.

As 2015 draws to a close, in partnership with Aboriginal Legal Services of Toronto (ALST), rabble.ca is launching a campaign urging Canadians to implement the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in their everyday lives, and to take at least one of the recommendations up as a New Year's resolution.

You can begin with a simple social media action. Add the "It Matters to Me" slogan to your facebook and twitter profiles at this link.

There are more opportunities to work toward reconciliation. From sports to education, to Indigenous languages to housing to advocating for greater inclusion and representation of Indigenous culture across Canada, there is work we can do as individuals to support change.

In this series, we'll take up some of the 94 recommendations of the TRC, and talk about ways that you can help make reconciliation a reality. Stay tuned on Tuesday December 1 for the first action.

Here's to 2016.
