rabble blogs are the personal pages of some of Canada's most insightful progressive activists and commentators. All opinions belong to the writer; however, writers are expected to adhere to our guidelines. We welcome new bloggers -- contact us for details.
Publisher's blog
Kim Elliott joined rabble in 2004 and became publisher in 2006. In her publisher's blog she'll explore the world of independent media, discussing both challenges and stories from the frontlines at rabble.ca.
Anyone who reads rabble knows Krystalline Kraus. The intrepid reporter, has been with rabble longer than any of us. Recruited by our founding publisher, Judy Rebick, as rabble's first intern, back in 2001, Krystalline has remained committed to reporting on the stories most acutely ignored or misrepresented in mainstream media. Krystalline writes from the streets of Toronto. For the past few years, with her blog "Activist Communique", Krystalline has been at the forefront of coverage from the G20 to Occupy to Idle No More. You can read Krystalline's work here.
We are coming to the end of our winter donation drive, and so I wanted to explain more why we ask for your support and how we fund rabble.ca.
On April 11, 2013 rabble.ca will celebrate its 12th birthday. In other words, a dozen years of producing and providing “news for the rest of us” in the most accessible way we can.
Thank you to all the individuals and organizations that have kept us alive and growing.
Elections matter -- and the one upcoming matters like perhaps none other in recent history. Recognizing that independent election coverage is essential at election-time, rabble.ca has launched a special federal election section -- which we hope you've all been following. The section features coverage from seasoned journalists, activist organizations, civil society and citizen reporters. We are proud of this coverage but we need support to keep it up.
Here is some of what you'll find in our election coverage:
Like all community based media, we depend on the generosity of many people to survive and thrive. Our winter donation drive ended Monday and we want to thank everyone who supported us with a donation!
rabble.ca is a non-profit site with no corporate owner, no major foundation support, and no rich relative to cut us cheques. We have you. And thanks to you we reached our goal of raising $15,000!!
In fact, we raised $15,135 in total through donations large and small and every dollar is truly appreciated. Thank you!
