"We're extremely disappointed with the behaviour of Canada Post at the bargaining table," Mike Palecek, president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) told rabble.
During CUPW's media conference on Tuesday, Palecek sat down with rabble for a one-on-one interview to discuss Canada Post Corporation serving 50,000 workers a lockout notice, its refusal to negotiate fairly and address the real issues, and misinformation that has been circulating in the public.
"We're dealing with an unscrupulous employer. They have no problem lying to the public and they have been untruthful about the real [financial situation] facing Canada Post for years," Palecek told the crowd.
Canada Post has returned over $1 billion to the federal government in the form of taxes and dividends over the last 20 years, Palecek told rabble. Yet, Canada Post management continues to say the opposite.
"It is a profitable, public post office. It's a public sector success story," says Palecek. "There's no crisis."
