Did you read the Truth and Reconcilliation report?

Duncan, B.C.-based writer Jennifer Manuel created an online campaign asking Canadians to pledge to read the entire 380-page document. Manuel calls it The TRC Reading Challenge. When she began in April, she hoped to have just 1,000 people sign on, but over 3,000 have already done so.  Read the report and then let's support the TRC's demands for change.

For a country that posits itself as a beacon of tolerance and peace in the world, it can be hard for Canadians to accept that our nation was actually built on genocide, starvation, violence, theft and lies.

It can be particularly hard to accept for those Canadians who benefit from the power structures that are threatened by these truths.

Whitewashing Canada's brutal past is fundamental to the maintenance of Canada as it exists today. If we were to collectively face the truths published in the Truth and Reconciliation Committee report, the very foundation on which Canada is built would crumble.

The noble dream of Quebec independence has an unlikely new champion

The newly elected leader of the Parti Québécois, 53-year-old Pierre Karl Péladeau is on a mission: make Quebec an independent country, able to take its place in the family of nations.

PKP, as he is universally known within Quebec, is an unlikely champion of the noble dream of Quebec independence.

Born the rich inheritor of a  global printing empire, PKP has watched it contract under his stewardship, along with newspaper sales. With the approval of a previous PQ government, Péladeau became the dominant figure in Quebec cable distribution, when he added Videotron to Quebecor, the giant company with a worldwide reach which his his father had put together.

Quebec: Péladeau wants to run Marois' election

They say a picture is worth a thousand words -- and sometimes it is.

It was last week when the cameras captured the tension between Pauline Marois, the Quebec premier and Parti Quebecois leader, and her star recruit, Pierre Karl Péladeau, in the April 7, provincial election.

Marois was at the lectern with the candidate by her side as she addressed the faithful at a routine campaign stop, when Péladeau tried to get to the microphone. Gently but firmly, Marois pushed him away -- not once, but three times, or so it appears from the video.
